I am Grateful

Times are tough right now.  Everywhere you look there are people having trying times.  Has this happened to you?  Will it happen to you?  Can it happen to you?

What do you think?  I think you must first start from a point where you begin to ask yourself, "what do I want from this life?"  This is your ground work or your foundation.  Then the building block would be, "what action are you going to take to get that from life?" Then to take that action.  This can sound so simple, yet can be met with so much fear and misunderstanding.  Maybe you know exactly what it is that you would like to do, but have been told you just wont make it.  Or some other rendition of that scenario.  This is most often fear based.  Fear of success, fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of...whatever!  Can you identify any fears you have right now?
When I feel that fear is making a big impact in my life, I like to squish it!  First step is to realize there is a fear, in a relationship it could be fear that the mate will leave, in business it could be fear that you don't have what it takes to maintain success, as long as you realize that there is an underlying fear.  After I realize that fear has shown its ugly eyes, then I attempt to find the root of this fear.  Now for me I personally like to lay in a quiet spot.  I prefer to meditate while laying on the floor with my palms up.  You could find what works for you.  Put that fear in your head and see where you feel the fear on your body.  Recently I was faced with a lay off from my job.  My world was spinning, and I could be positive, but still didn't quite understand what the Universe had in store.  So I laid on the floor and placed my hand on my heart.  This is how I connect with my heart space.  As I did this I felt my world calm down and peace enter my head.  I let the calm take over me, its what I needed.  And then I heard the beautiful voice of intuition helping me find gratitude.
Gratitude is such a simple thing.  It is all around us as well, if we choose to look for it.  Gratitude can be something as simple as just being thankful for the day.  Find joy and peace in everything.  Coming from a place of gratitude means that new doors will open up for you in many avenues.  You need to get in the practice of doing this everyday.  Practice gratitude daily.
Once you practice gratitude daily the action steps will be a lot clearer.  Find gratitude in all areas of your life and you will easily find the action steps in your life.

"As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them."   John F. Kennedy

Reiki as a Complementary Cancer Treatment

Reiki as a Complementary Cancer Treatment

Reiki is a gentle and effective complementary treatment for many diseases and

conditions, ranging from the minor to the serious. Many cancer patients have

received Reiki in addition to medical treatments and have reported greater

relaxation, less pain, and the easing of medical treatment side effects such as

nausea, vomiting, and anxiety.

For the many patients who have been helped by reiki treatments, their own

experience is proof enough that it works. Yet, scientific studies have had mixed

results. Many have shown significant improvement in the well being of cancer

patients who received Reiki treatments. Yet they typically did not involve control

groups and could not prove Reiki any better than a placebo. [http://

cancer.about.com/od/alternativetreatments/a/reiki.htm]

These results are not surprising because how Reiki works is in line with how the

placebo effect happens. Cancer and other such serious and difficult to treat diseases

are caused and affected by many factors. While the patient’s physical environment,

genes and lifestyle may play a part, their overall emotional, mental, social and

spiritual conditions also have roles in the development and the healing of these

diseases.

Successful treatment requires not only working on the physical aspects of the

disease-- i.e. using chemotherapy to shrink tumors--but also addressing the causes

on an energetic level. Furthermore, for energy therapies such as Reiki to work, the

patient must be open to having them work. This activates the mental and emotional

side of healing, which is also the cause of the placebo effect.

Reiki activates electromagnetic energy, which can shrink tumors. Yet unlike

chemotherapy, it is not a blast of energy that destroys good cells as well as bad.

Reiki restores and maintains healthful balances in the body, mind and energy fields.

It also balances the emotions, which people dealing with the stress and uncertainty

of a serious disease greatly need. [http://www.naturalbloom.com/articles/reiki-50/]

Patients who receive Reiki and learn how to use its principles for self healing benefit

not only from the treatment itself, but also from the sense of empowerment that

comes from doing something to help combat the disease. Mainstream medicine

offers no certainty of a cure for cancer, and even less for mesothelioma, which is

one of the cancers least responsive to conventional treatments. Medical treatments

for cancer are usually further disempowering in that they place the treatment

entirely in the hands of the doctor and often have debilitating side effects for the

patient.

Even with this in mind, Reiki should not be used as a substitute for medical

treatment, but as a complement to it. A mesothelioma prognosis is best when the

patient receives the best of what both alternative and conventional medicine have to

offer.

Reiki in a nutshell....a BIG nutshell.

I absolutely LOVE Reiki.  The most common question I get asked is, What is Reiki?  So, in a nut shell here is what I tell those people:
Reiki is a Japanese based healing energy.  I say Japanese based because energy healing is in so many other modalities and cultures.  In Japan it is called Reiki.  In other cultures it is called by other names, Shaman or spirit person is what I have been called by others.  On the lighter side I get called VooDoo lady, Energy zapper and all sorts of funny things.

What energy healing is has to do with the energy that is within all things.  Yes, even your car has energy!  It is sometimes easy to see the energy within living things, the toddler running endlessly at a playground is a good example.  The energy in a carpet or book might be much harder to describe and understand.  Have you ever just walked in a house and felt comfortable?  That is the energy residing in the house.  Or have you walked into a house and for some odd reason wanted to leave?  Same energy, whether you like the people or not!  As a Reiki practitioner I can feel the energy in things.  I help to balance that energy with my energy.  Do I get tired from doing Reiki?  Not at all!!! I actually get more energized and excited because it is something that I love!  As a person pursuing Reiki goes through training, they get what is called attunements.  These attunements pass the Reiki Masters energy on to them.  Hard to follow but, that also passes on all the attunements of the previous masters.  Some people are very into lineage and this is why.  If the original Reiki Master - Dr. Mikao Usui - is in your lineage then you have energy that has been passed down from him.  But that is another post!
I can not give any negative energy to someone nor do I take on their negative energy.  This is what proper attunements are for.  The more attunements you have had from various people the more balanced a Reiki practitioner is with lineage from all sources.  Can we connect to the world this way? Sure seems possible!

Reiki feels like warmth or sometimes a tingly feeling.  During a session the Reiki practitioner gently lays their palms on different positions of the clients self.  In this way we are balancing the clients energy as well as knowing where to go next.  The body's energy will let us know where it would like the healing energy.  Sounds all to weird?  During a session I can feel in my heart where I am supposed to work with a client.  I can't explain it when I am done.  Most best describe it as intuition.  Working with that intuition is sometimes difficult for a Reiki practitioner to do.  Really trusting yourself and the energy is all it takes.  A typical session is an hour, although some sessions are shorter or longer.  It depends how the practitioner sets up their practice.  How long your session ends up, for me, depends on your energy and its needs.

To Reiki another person a practitioner need only be a Reiki I level.  This is a basic level, but is fully capable of providing the healing needed for energy work.  Reiki II works with symbols and can distance heal a person.  Again the more Reiki attunements you've received the more healing energy you have in your arsenal, (that's how I like to remember it.)  So the higher level you are, you know the person has had more attunements.  That doesn't necessarily mean that a Reiki I hasn't had as many atunements as a Reiki Master.  Not sure I should go down this maze, but some people choose to stay a Reiki I and not further their training.  Yet, they could still go and have attunements from a Reiki Master.  Thus giving them a powerful arsenal of lineage.  Reiki Master is the highest level, yet there is so much within that title.  Don't assume just because someone is a Master that you will go for a session with them and instantly be healed!  This is not how it works, more on that in a few.  Reiki Master is like karate, or at least that is the analogy I give, there are many levels to black belt and once a black belt there is always education and work to keep up.  A Reiki Master has the ability to pass on energy, as in attunement, and has the highest symbol of the Master Symbol.

Some people feel Reiki instantly.  Like heat or buzzing from the palm of the practitioner.  While others feel the effects hours to days later.  Sometimes people don't realize the effects until they notice what is missing.  An example would be a client of mine that comes to me for shoulder pain.  She had her session and thanked me.  She seemed disappointed until she called me the next day.  "I didn't think that Reiki worked until I woke up and had full movement in my arm again!  I didn't even realize it until I was brushing my hair and noticed the movement and the fact the pain was gone!"  We live in a fast paced world where instant results are the most appreciated and sought after.  Reiki has the ability to do that, however I would caution against seeking that.  Reiki works with enegy and there is no control for energy.  You can not force it.  I get asked how many sessions will this take, the answer is within the individual.  When you feel you are balanced, then you know.

I stumbled along this quote and had to share, a little soul food.

"I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the community, and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.  I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live.  Life is no "brief candle" to me.  It is sort of a splendid torch which I have got hold of for a moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations."  -George Bernard Shaw

I love this quote.  Very well said!!
Thank you universe for providing me with the knowledge and understanding of what it means to belong to a community!

Shift in Energy

Today I realized how much my energy has shifted.  I am happier, more content and just feel alive for me!  It feels great!!!

What did I do?  Focused on the positive.  Searched out ways that I can give to others.  It isn't a secret that I am buying my first home.  So obviously I am trying to reduce my spending right now.  I look for ways that I can give from the talent that I possess.  This is hard because I must first recognize my talents and what I can do for others.

I recently went to my sisters house because she wanted to help me on the search and rescue blog that I have.  I had a great time just sitting and spending time with her and the family.  I learned new things and just enjoyed the moment.  My sister is very talented so for me to give something that is not bought is hard for me.  I found that I gave her time.

Sometimes we feel that we don't have time to give, but this is very important to give to people.  Even everyday people.  Stop to give time.  Stop to listen, notice what color their eyes are.

When you take the time to listen, focus on the positive and spend time with people, you will notice a positive shift in your energy as well.  And trust me...it feels magnificent!!!

My Page - 29-Day Giving Challenge

My Page - 29-Day Giving Challenge

I went to the bookstore today searching for a day-by-day calendar. A random person had dropped off some cookies to work and taped to them was a calendar page for that day. On it read, "Give cookies to your local hospital today." I thought this was a genius calendar idea! I was now on the hunt for a random acts type of calendar for myself. I went to the local Borders bookstore at the mall. Well if you want to call it a mall. I searched and searched, but the only calendars they had were pretty picked over being the tenth day of January and all. I wandered the aisle hoping to find what I came for. There was the book by Cami Walker titled, "29 Gifts -How a month of giving can change your life." This was no calendar, but it seemed to jump into my hands. This is what I was looking for. On my way to the register I grabbed a small gift for my mom. She is sick today and I just wanted to cheer her up.
Once I opened the book, I just couldn't put it down. I know how cliche that sounds, but it is true! I work with someone that is experiencing the same struggles that the author is talking about. I instantly want to run out and get her this book.  As I read the book I realized that today was my Day 1, without even knowing what it was all about.
I bought my mom some NUN-chucks. A joke gift because she is a catholic school girl and tends to collect random nun objects. I also got her a Zen calendar for her desk. She has wanted to improve the moral where we work with inspirational quotes. So I thought this could improve her moral at times when she needs it and give her ideas. And because she was sick, I bought her orange juice! I felt so good when I gave those things to her. I felt a rush of the energy I am excited to get back too. What a wonderful feeling to rush over me! I haven't been able to spend much time with my mom as I usually do, so I just sat with her for a while. I then finished a project I had started at her house and returned to my home in a wonderful mood!
I loose track often. Thinking of other things to do before tending to myself. I worry about all the things that I am not doing and should be. I haven't been able to sleep. Things at work are changing and I wonder where it will leave me. The house I made an offer on actually may come to a close. Me- a homeowner! Scary, but I am SO ready....or am I?? All these feelings of doubt and fear left me as I was at my moms. It was just us. It was just great!

*Thank You Cami Walker and the others that have written books such as these to help remind us what life truly is about! You are blessed!
